Instructional Designer | Storyline, Rise, ILT, Storyboards & Audits
I'm an instructional designer with a writing background (an MFA and eight years teaching university writing), and I can join your project at whatever stage you need: turning raw SME material into a storyboard, building a full course in Storyline or Rise, designing instructor-led training, or reviewing a course you already have and recommending how to improve it. A lot of my work has involved dense, high-stakes content. I led design on a national Type 1 diabetes curriculum for the National Association of School Nurses, starting as a 7-hour ILT and later converted to a 5-module Rise series, and I've since built a second 5-module Rise course for NASN on their Framework for School Nurse Practice. I also co-led development of a large course library for child and adult protective services workers, built multiple Storyline courses for Property Management University, and modernized 14+ leadership and professional development ILT courses for Cuyahoga Community College. My freelance clients have included tech companies as well, so I'm comfortable with clinical and technical material in any field. My process is the same either way; I learn the content well enough to explain it back in plain language, ask the SMEs questions until it's clear, and then build it so learners can apply it on the job. Because I start from the writing, I usually catch problems before they get built into a course: a concept that's accurate but unclear, a source that won't hold up, an activity that doesn't connect to any learning objective, or an accessibility gap like missing alt text or a scrambled PDF read order. I'd rather ask an awkward question during the outline than rebuild a module after review. If you already have a course, I can audit it and give you specific, prioritized recommendations. For the community college series, that meant sorting content against the learning objectives, cutting what learners didn't need, and reworking the flow and instructions so discussions had room to happen. I'm glad to take on a single storyboard or build, and I also work well as a long-term partner. My NASN work has continued past launch with revisions based on learner feedback and a realignment to the newest edition of NASN's clinical practice guidelines. What I can do for you: β Content outlines and storyboards from raw SME material β Full eLearning development in Articulate Storyline and Rise β Instructor-led training, including facilitator guides and train-the-trainer design β Course audits with prioritized recommendations β Accessibility review and remediation: alt text, captions, navigation, and accessible fillable PDFs β SCORM troubleshooting, especially Storyline blocks embedded in Rise courses β Job aids, learner workbooks, assessments, and video β Editing and proofreading (APA, MLA, Chicago) I design from learning objectives backward, build accessibility in from the first draft, and bring a trauma-informed, neurodiversity-affirming approach to every project. Tools: Articulate Storyline, Articulate Rise, Vyond, WellSaid, Canva, Adobe Acrobat, PowerPoint, Word, Google Workspace You'll find samples of my storyboards, eLearning modules, and ILT materials in my full instructional design portfolio, linked below.
