My educational background is in the biological sciences, which gave me the opportunity to learn to program with projects involving machine learning, data cleanup, and statistical analysis. But I also have experience with projects that required me to crawl the web, automate report generation, and put together prototype web pages for showcasing new ML projects. I've written pattern matching algorithms, modeled ecological toxin data, and used machine learning to categorize HTML page elements intelligently. I've also scraped the public web, collected social data using APIs, built an automated pipeline for validating a stream of ML predictions, and quantified sentiment with ensemble learning. I've worked as a data scientist at a startup doing data visualization, data engineering, and some standard DevOps tasks with tools like Docker Swarm. I've provisioned redshift databases, designed Segment.io schemas, and spun up Apache Airflow, Kafka, and Storm clusters (usually with Docker). Almost all the coding I do is in Python, but I've got some R under my belt, and I can write a mean SQL query when I need to. What's more, I'm well-accustomed to flying (mostly) blind and learning as I go. I like to believe skill isn't about knowing everything; it's about knowing how to learn what you need. I don't just program, though! I also love writing—website copy, blog posts, tweets, annotated bibliographies, you name it. I started writing for online content sites like Constant Content and Yahoo's former Associated Content when I was 15 when I got my first computer. I wrote a bi-weekly column for my college newspaper, and I often write about the goings-on in my subfield of biology for my personal blog, just for fun. So whether you need someone to visualize some data, hack on a Flask API, or build some machine learning models, or you need a writer who's also got some technical chops or biology knowledge, I'm your guy.
