Industrial Designer | Product Development from Idea to Manufacturing

Most successful products don't start with CAD. They start with asking the right questions. Have a product idea but aren't sure what it takes to bring it to market? I'm Colin, an Expert-Vetted Industrial Designer with 10+ years of experience developing products for manufacturing. I help entrepreneurs, inventors, startups, and established companies turn product ideas into manufacturable products — from initial concept development and 3D CAD to prototyping, design for manufacturing, and production-ready files. You don't need to have everything figured out before we start. Whether you have an initial idea, a rough sketch, an existing CAD model, or a prototype that needs refinement, I'll help you understand what needs to happen next and develop a practical path toward production. ## Product Design That Goes Beyond CAD I've worked on a wide range of products, including consumer products, fitness equipment, medical devices, housewares, and injection-molded plastic products. My experience goes beyond 3D modeling. I understand how products need to function, prototype, and be manufactured. I consider these requirements from the beginning so we can identify potential issues early, avoid unnecessary redesigns, and develop products that are practical to produce. One of my favorite projects was helping launch an entire fitness product line in just four months. The products sold out during presales and were designed for long-term durability. That's the kind of outcome I enjoy helping clients achieve: turning an idea into a real product with a clear path toward production. ## A Practical, Honest Approach to Product Development I believe successful projects are built on clear communication, realistic expectations, and making the right decisions early. If I see an opportunity to improve your design, I'll tell you. If there's a better way to solve a problem or reduce manufacturing complexity, we'll discuss it. My goal isn't to sell you more design hours. It's to help you develop a product you'll be proud to put into production. Many of my best clients have returned with their second, third, and even fourth products because they know I'll treat their project as if it were my own. ## My Product Development Process Every successful product starts with a plan. Rather than jumping straight into CAD, I guide clients through the key stages of development. **1. Discovery & Research** We define your product's purpose, target customer, requirements, and manufacturing goals. This gives us a clear direction before investing in detailed design work. **2. Concept Development** We explore design directions, evaluate ideas, and refine the strongest concept before moving into detailed CAD. **3. CAD Modeling & Design for Manufacturing (DFM)** I develop detailed 3D CAD models with functionality, materials, manufacturing methods, and production requirements in mind. **4. Prototyping & Testing** We build, test, and refine prototypes to identify functional issues, validate design decisions, and improve the product before production. **5. Manufacturing Preparation** I prepare manufacturing-ready files, technical drawings, and documentation. When needed, I can also support manufacturer sourcing and the transition toward production. This structured approach helps keep projects organized, reduce costly mistakes, and ensure your product is ready for the next stage. ## How I Can Help - Industrial Design & Product Design - Product Development from Concept to Manufacturing - Concept Development & Sketching - 3D CAD Modeling - Product Rendering & Visualization - Injection-Molded Plastic Part Design - Design for Manufacturing (DFM) - Prototype Development - 3D Printing & Prototyping - Manufacturing Drawings & Production Files - Technical Documentation - Manufacturer Sourcing & Production Support ## Let's Figure Out What's Next Whether you're starting with an idea, improving an existing product, or preparing for manufacturing, I'd be happy to hear about your project. Send me a message explaining what you're developing, where you are in the process, and what you're hoping to accomplish. I'll help you understand the next steps and determine how I can support your project. Sometimes a 15-minute conversation is all it takes to turn a good idea into a clear product development plan.
