Investment Consulting
For the past 30 years, since leaving DRW, I haven't drawn a salary. Every dollar I've earned has come from generating returns or creating value. That perspective shapes everything I do. I ran a derivatives trading operation at StoneX Group for 21 years — one losing year, averaging 8x annual returns on margin capital. Before that, I spent eight years in private equity investing on behalf of a Forbes 400 family, where we averaged 45% annual returns across deals from $5M to $100M. Today I advise family offices and sophisticated investors on complex investments while managing my own capital through a systematic strategy I've been running for the past seven years. I work across the full lifecycle of an investment. On the front end, that means sourcing, screening, and structuring — building the financial models, stress-testing assumptions, and identifying where the real risk sits before capital goes in. Mid-stream, it's portfolio construction, allocation strategy, and ongoing performance monitoring against the thesis that justified the investment in the first place. On the back end, it's risk mitigation — designing hedging programs, modeling downside scenarios, and knowing when to restructure or exit. My alternative asset experience covers most of the map. On the private side: buyout funds, venture capital, co-investments, mezzanine and distressed debt, and special situations. In real assets: commercial real estate, infrastructure, farmland, timberland, and commodities. In hedge funds and liquid alternatives: relative value, arbitrage, quantitative systematic strategies, managed futures, and structured products. I've also built pricing models for parametric insurance products — work that came from helping a startup create hedging instruments for exposures that traditional markets couldn't touch. Right now I'm serving as interim CFO for a real estate development company building data center infrastructure — structuring the deal, modeling LP/GP economics, building levelized cost of power analysis across grid and behind-the-meter generation, and managing a Reg D 506(c) capital raise. I've been profitable through 2008, 2020, and every other dislocation in between. The frameworks I use work when theoretical models don't. Most of my clients are funds, family offices, and UHNW individuals who need someone who thinks like a principal, not an advisor. Some want ongoing portfolio oversight and allocation guidance. Others need help structuring a specific transaction, evaluating manager risk, building out a hedging program, or pressure-testing a deal before they commit capital.
