I’m a “pistol”, as my grandfather would say, all grey-haired and lopsided grins. As a writer, we call it having a voice–a personality–deeply imbedded in each letter, every sentence, down to the punctuation marks; I’ve infused them with my own unique blend of humanness. I called him Chuckles, but his name was Charles. “You shoot from the hip, finger on the trigger ready with a quip”, he’d say with finger guns and that old man wink. As a reader, your eyes pick up on the scents: notes of wit, aged with gracious sarcasm and life experience, and fleshed out with full-bodied research and logical outlining. Despite being inanimate configurations of black markings on your LED screen, you can read this and sense the living, breathing, human being that’s narrating inside your head start to take shape. I bet you it’s female-coded. Perhaps she gestures with her hands a lot and encourages your easy smiles. You may even find yourself nodding along with every subsequent line. She smiles in triumph. This is the power of good writing, honed by interest in the craft. (AI could never!). Couple that with my insatiable thirst for knowledge and I transform the 26-letter alphabet into a composition that miraculously comes out different with each project despite it’s constraints. I embody my clients in my work; matching their style, industry jargon, and tone for their brand’s presentation to the digital world. From FinTech to Real Estate to Life Coaching, I’ve done it all. Fortunately, being a jack-of-all-trades proves beneficial, but there is no mastery of writing, only growth. So feel free to call me Jack, or “pistol”, but my name's Heather.
