Ryan N.
P.E Mechanical Engineer, expert in rotating machine design
Iโm a licensed Professional Engineer and the owner of Norris Engineering, a mechanical design consultancy specializing in motor-driven actuation, drivetrain systems, and bearing and rotating-machinery analysis. I help robotics, mobility, and machine-building teams take hard motion-control problems from concept through analysis, prototyping, and validation. My core is power transmission and precision motion including gear design, bearing life and misalignment analysis, and linear and rotary actuator systems. That foundation extends naturally into adjacent problems: robotic steering actuators, drivetrain kinematics, fixture and sealing design, and first-principles structural and fatigue analysis. Previously, as Head of Engineering at Driven Technologies, I led the design, analysis, prototyping, and testing of the Orbit Drive ebike eCVT, a clean-sheet planetary bevel differential that earned significant industry attention. Across 15+ years Iโve worked on everything from spacecraft life support gearboxes to high-volume rotating equipment, always driven by the same thing: creating elegant, cost-efficient mechanisms that keep people and things moving. I hold P.E. licensure in Washington, Colorado, and Wyoming, and Iโm currently pursuing an MSME at Johns Hopkins. I work in SolidWorks, Fusion 360 and CATIA 3DEXPERIENCE, run my own analysis in ANSYS, Python and MATLAB/Simulink, and maintain in-house prototype and metrology capabilities.
