Community Needs Assessment | Mixed-Methods | Nonprofit & Government
I help nonprofits, government agencies, and community-facing organizations turn research into decisions. As the founder of AFJ Consulting LLC, I specialize in community needs assessments, mixed-methods research design, and data reporting for public-sector clients. My work sits at the intersection of rigorous research methodology and plain-language communication, producing findings that boards, funders, and community members can actually use. My most recent engagement was leading the FY2026 Community Needs Assessment for a major NYC youth services agency, a citywide multilingual study conducted in 13 languages across all five boroughs, 59 community districts, and 40+ public hearings, with a community-level interactive data dashboard as a deliverable. Before that I led CNAs for the YMCA of Metro Atlanta and a federal agency baseline survey of 1,627 respondents across 17 counties at a 95% confidence level. I understand the compliance requirements that come with CSBG-funded organizations, federal grant reporting, ROMA performance measurement, and Head Start standards. If your research needs to hold up to state or federal review, I know what that takes. What I can help you with: Survey design and instrument development for community research. Quantitative and qualitative data analysis. Cross-tabulation by geography, demographic subgroup, and service area. Plain-language report writing for nonprofit boards, funders, and community audiences. Data visualization and dashboard development. Community needs assessments from design through final report. Who I work with: Community Action Agencies. Nonprofits and foundations. Local and state government agencies. Organizations receiving federal funding including CSBG, Head Start, HUD, and CDBG. Where I am based: Tulsa, Oklahoma. Available for remote engagements globally.
