I build and fix backend systems. Mostly the parts nobody notices until they break: APIs, databases, payment flows, and integrations with other companies' platforms. For four years I worked at Indodana, a paylater fintech under Djarum Group, where I went from engineer to senior engineer on the core lending platform. That meant credit limits, repayments and loan contracts, plus the integrations that put our paylater option inside Tokopedia, Shopee, TikTok Shop, Lazada, Traveloka and Agoda. The product lines I led brought in over IDR 100 billion (about USD 6 million) a month, on services running at 400 to 600 requests per second with 99.9% uptime. I also mentored junior engineers and took my turn on call. Since 2025 I've been doing client work here. A few recent projects: - Consentz, a UK telehealth platform. Their API kept getting slower as they grew. I traced it to N+1 queries and weak indexing, fixed both, and added Grafana and Prometheus so they can spot the next slowdown before users do. Latency dropped by 80%. - An HMRC Making Tax Digital (ITSA) integration for a UK accounting system, so their users can submit self-employment and property income straight to HMRC. - A Symfony app on MariaDB and AWS RDS where rewriting the Doctrine queries cut database latency by 50 to 60%. - The backend for a Dubai city guide app with local activities, magazine content and a gamification system. thehuntr, which I maintain end to end. I cleaned up a legacy Laravel codebase, set up monitoring, and added Redash so the team can query their own data without asking a developer. What I work with: Java and Spring Boot, PHP (Laravel, Symfony, Lumen), NodeJS, and some Go and Python. MySQL, PostgreSQL, MariaDB, Redis. AWS, GCP, Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD. Backend is my focus, but I'm comfortable taking a feature all the way through with React, Next.js and Tailwind, and several projects in my portfolio are exactly that. How I work: I'd rather ask a few questions at the start than guess. You'll get updates without having to chase me, code the next developer can read, and notes on how to deploy and run it. I'm in Indonesia (GMT+7), so my afternoons overlap with UK mornings and most of the working day in the Gulf. I've picked up new languages and frameworks on client projects more than once, Symfony and HMRC's tax APIs being recent examples. Most backend problems come down to the same things underneath (data, queries, failure handling), so a new stack doesn't slow me down for long.
