Dear Recruiter, There are two things I know to be true about travel as it relates to writing. There are talented, educated writers who can write marvellous tales and well-crafted articles. There are also professional globetrotters who know everything there is to know about taking risks, taking a step out of your comfort zone and have an encyclopedia worth of knowledge of other cultures. That said, no one will listen to a writer who has not experienced travel themselves; there is no sense in taking advice from someone who has not experienced what you seek to experience. On the hand, if a frequent traveller is not an adequate writer with an intriguing voice, they will have a terrible time attempting to communicate their ideas and share their expertise. They will lose their audience and their advice will become obsolete. And so that leads me to one thing I know to be true about the candidate you are seeking- they need to be both an excellent storyteller and well-traveled adventurist. Furthermore, beyond the matter of knowledge and ability, it is also true that a good writer with passion is far more important than a great writer without vested interested in their topics. I believe I would be an excellent candidate for this position because I am not only an avid creative writer, but I am extremely passionate about travel. For years, I have dedicated my life to sustainable travel and sought out opportunity after opportunity to explore the globe. I am also an enthusiastic naturalist, spending much of my spare time outdoors-backpacking, camping, hiking or biking- with my husband. I have a formal education from the University of Waterloo and have been fulfilling various professional positions in the years since, so I am well versed in professional communications and editing as well. I am a motivated, self-starter and work well under pressure. I am always looking for an opportunity to learn something new and would love to bring this passion to your projects.
