Allison J.

Writing a book is a marathon, not a sprint, and I congratulate you for all of the passion, hard work, and discipline it took to get to this point in the publishing process. You’ve put Herculean effort into creating your manuscript, and now you naturally want to make sure it’s perfect—that’s where I come in! With decades of experience at a successful publishing company, I am a meticulous editor with a proven track record of spotting even the smallest of errors. I personally proofread and edit every document sent to me (no AI), and my mission is to elevate your writing to make it the best it can be while retaining your authentic voice. For 15+ years, I was a senior developing editor at a major publishing company, helping authors like you ready their books for the world. I have vast experience in multiple genres including: health, diet/fitness, business, sports, psychology, parenting, mindfulness, women’s issues, cookbooks, memoirs, and more. I'm proud to say that many of the books I edited received praise from Publisher’s Weekly, the New York Times Book Review, The Midwest Book Review, and more. Our books won numerous awards including The Nautilus Award and the Ben Franklin Literary Award. How Can I Help? I provide comprehensive copyediting and line editing for style, structure, language, phrasing, repetition, clarity, cohesiveness, and conciseness. With an in-depth knowledge of Chicago Manual of Style guidelines, I proofread for spelling, grammar, punctuation, tense agreement, typos, and factual errors. I also offer final page checks after typesetting to ensure consistency in formatting elements, including front and back matter, running heads, lists, boxes, capitalization in headlines, and more. I have beta read approximately 100 books in my career, providing detailed feedback to authors in a variety of genres. I am insightful, thoughtful, candid, and kind. Why Me? As a published author myself and an editor who worked with literary agents daily, I offer a unique skill set. I've been immersed in all cycles and sides of the writing, publishing, and PR processes. I'd love to help you make your manuscript (or newsletter or article or blog post) shine. Let’s get to work!
