Two years ago I became a moderator for a US telecom brand's subreddit. 40K members, 375K weekly visits, and a community that will absolutely call you out the second you sound like a corporate account. That experience taught me more about Reddit than any course or certification ever could. Over time the work grew into something I did not expect. I built out the entire Wiki for the subreddit, basically a Wikipedia dedicated to the community, covering everything from common questions to troubleshooting guides to community rules and resources. The kind of thing that cuts down repetitive posts and actually makes a community feel like it has structure and soul at the same time. Then I got obsessed with understanding what was actually being said in the subreddit, not just responding to it. So I started building the systems around it. Reddit API workflows, Zapier automations that pipe posts and comments into Google Sheets, Looker Studio dashboards, custom analytics dashboards built from scratch using Apps Script and JavaScript. Basically turning Reddit conversations into something structured and actually useful. Now I do all three. Moderate communities, build the knowledge layer inside them, and build the intelligence layer behind them. Which is a weird combination but it means you do not have to hire a moderator and a data person separately and hope they figure out how to work together.
