Instructional Designer | Curriculum Build, Review & AI-Era Assessment
Instructional designer with 20 years in content creation, an MBA and an MSc in Psychology. Top Rated, 33 Upwork contracts. Most clients who come to me now are not short of content. They have a transcript, a facilitator guide, a first module or a stack of AI drafts, and the question is whether it works as learning and whether it will still work at module 20. That is the work I do. WHAT I DO Curriculum build from your raw material. You hand me recordings, notes, slides or a subject expert's time. I convert them to text, sequence the curriculum, write the lesson and video-script copy, and go back to your source at set points to check the course has not drifted from what you actually said. Review of a learning path before you scale it. Sequence, cognitive load, whether each activity practises the skill it claims to, whether the scenarios are realistic, whether the structure starts repeating itself by path six. You get a written report of keep, change, cut, and the reasoning behind each call. Assessment that tests judgment, not recall. Scenario decisions, applied tasks and rubrics tied to observable performance. Multiple choice where it earns its place, not as the default. AI-assisted production with a human editor in the loop. I run a documented production pipeline (backward design, narrative frameworks, prompt frameworks, built-in QA passes). The pipeline is how a 12-module build stays consistent and on budget. The judgment about what the AI got wrong, generic or off-tone is mine, and that is what you are paying for. RECENT WORK A six-module e-bike safety curriculum turned into production-ready scripts (5.0, "delivered far beyond what I expected"). Middle-school Robotics and PE courses (both 5.0). A $5K Prompt Engineering course build. BACKGROUND I have run a school and a department at tertiary level (Cape Town School of Photography, SAE Institute), produced learning video for Lewis Group, and lectured. The MSc in Psychology is why assessment design and cognitive load get real attention rather than a line in a checklist. TOOLS Claude, ChatGPT and GenAI production workflows (Upwork GenAI certified). Moodle, Canvas and most web-based course platforms. Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. Python and Streamlit where a build needs a custom tool. HOW I WORK Async first, in writing, specific. Fixed price or hourly. I build the material your instructors deliver; I am not available for live facilitation or on-camera delivery. Send me the material you already have and the question you have about it.
