vCISO | SOC 2, ISO 27001, NIST, CMMC & FedRAMP Advisory & Remediation

I help companies build and run security and compliance programs without the cost of a full-time CISO. As a virtual CISO with 22 years across federal contracting, financial services, and private consulting, I step in at whatever stage you're at: standing up a program from scratch, closing gaps before an audit, or keeping an existing one running. What I bring to an engagement: Framework and standards depth. Hands-on experience across the frameworks clients actually get asked to comply with: CMMC and NIST 800-171 for defense contractors, NIST 800-53 and FedRAMP for federal and cloud service providers, NIST CSF and CIS Controls v8 for general security posture, and ISO 27001 and SOC 2 for commercial and enterprise-facing companies. I can tell you which one your contracts actually require and build toward that, instead of over-engineering a program you don't need yet. Security program leadership. I've personally led a company through SOC 2 Type II certification, from closing readiness gaps through final auditor report issuance. I know what auditors actually look for and how to get a program audit-ready without wasted motion. Regulatory and compliance depth. Direct, hands-on experience with SEC, FTC, and GLBA-style compliance frameworks, including drafting Written Information Security Programs (WISPs) and incident response plans that hold up to regulator and auditor scrutiny. Privacy program advisory. I help early-stage and growing companies right-size their privacy programs: data retention policies, data processing agreements (DPAs), and practical, defensible documentation instead of boilerplate. Vendor and third-party risk. Experience building vendor oversight documentation and risk assessment processes that satisfy both internal stakeholders and external auditors. Hands-on remediation. I'm technical, not just advisory. If an assessment turns up gaps, I can help fix them directly rather than just handing you a findings report and leaving you to figure out implementation. Technical depth beyond compliance. Strong hands-on background in cybersecurity engineering and architecture, plus vulnerability management, cyber resilience and threat intelligence, insider threat programs, and Security Operations Center (SOC) experience. I can operate at the architecture and engineering level, not just the policy level. Background: MS in Cybersecurity (University of Maryland Global Campus). I work as an independent contractor on these engagements, typically 8-40 hours per month depending on scope, and I'm comfortable with background checks and NDAs. If you need a security or compliance program that's actually defensible, not just documented, let's talk about what your business needs.
