Book Editor for Authors Who Know Something Isn't Working Yet

Writing a book is harder than most people expect, even when the ideas are strong. Authors come to me when something in their manuscript isn't working. The story is there, or the argument is clear, but the writing doesn't quite feel right. Chapters drag. Sections don't connect the way they're supposed to. The words on the page don't quite match what they meant to say. My job is to work on that gap. I edit fiction and nonfiction across a wide range of genres — literary fiction, thrillers, fantasy, crime, contemporary and historical romance, sci-fi, self-help, memoir, business, health, and finance. Before coming to Upwork, I worked as a Head Editor and edited over 50 manuscripts under professional editorial standards. What I actually do in a manuscript: - Look at structure first, whether the chapters and sections hold together the way they need to - Work through the prose at the line level, tightening what's loose without changing how the author sounds - Give feedback that's honest and specific, not encouraging in a way that isn't useful I don't try to make every manuscript sound the same. The goal is always to make it clearer, more cohesive, and easier to read, while keeping the author's voice intact.
