Sofware Engineer
I build and automate Linux infrastructure that runs from edge devices to the cloud. Red Hat Certified System Administrator and AWS Certified Solutions Architect. Right now I own the full stack at a battery manufacturer: the edge device fleet, backend services, CI/CD, and cloud infrastructure. Before that I spent three years on research computing and Linux administration at the University of British Columbia. Recent work: - Replaced a fleet of Windows 11 edge devices with an immutable Linux platform (openSUSE MicroOS), including automated image provisioning, containerized services, and CI/CD pipelines that did not exist before. - Built a multi-tenant customer portal with a Go REST API and Svelte frontend to replace a legacy .NET application. SSO, role based access control, task dispatching over RabbitMQ, live updates over WebSockets. - Rewrote a battery log parser in Rust with Polars and cut processing from about 20 seconds per log to 15 milliseconds. - Moved time-series data from MySQL to TimescaleDB, which made metric queries far faster. - Replaced Samba-over-VPN file transfers with rsync over SSH, making data transfer from field devices 10 to 20 times faster. - Self-hosted the observability stack: Graylog for centralized logging, per-device dashboards with access control, and monitoring agents across the fleet. - Self-hosted Headscale to manage the edge device network, with ACLs that keep devices and customers isolated. - Cut environment setup time by 90% at UBC using Ansible, Docker, and Apptainer, and supported researchers running Python workloads on SLURM clusters. What I can do for you: Provision and manage Linux servers and device fleets. Automate deployments and system tasks so you stop doing them by hand. Build data pipelines in Python or Go, including extraction from undocumented APIs and device telemetry. Set up monitoring and logging you can actually read. Migrate legacy systems to something maintainable. Stack: Languages: Go, Python, Bash, SQL Systems: RHEL, openSUSE (MicroOS), Ubuntu Automation: Ansible, Docker, GitHub Actions, CI/CD Databases: PostgreSQL, TimescaleDB, MySQL Monitoring: Graylog, Prometheus, Grafana Networking and security: WireGuard, Headscale, SSH, SELinux, firewalld, DNS Cloud: AWS (EC2, S3, IAM, VPC, CloudWatch) I have worked with research labs, small businesses, and product teams. Available for short-term fixes and longer infrastructure projects.
