Book Layout & Prepress Specialist | Print + Amazon KDP | 500+ Books
I catch technical slip-ups in layouts before the printer does. Saving your nerves, time and budget on reprinting the whole run :) Whether it’s a fresh manuscript or a PDF your printer rejected, I get the file truly ready for print. Not just “looks pretty on a screen,” but built for real print production. No costly mistakes or last-minute panic. I’ve been typesetting books for 14+ years (500+ titles so far), and I still genuinely enjoy it. I have a degree in publishing and print production, and before layout I worked the whole production line myself: prepress, then press operator, then post-press. I’ve watched files go through every stage a printer puts them through, and I know exactly what a bad one costs: wasted print runs, reprints, blown deadlines. That’s why I check bleed, color profiles, overprint and fonts before your file ever leaves my desk. Print is where I’m strongest. Most of my clients also publish on Amazon KDP or IngramSpark later, so I adapt the same files to their specs. One person, one book, no starting from scratch. WHAT I DO → Book Layout & Typesetting. Fiction, non-fiction, textbooks, workbooks, poetry, magazines, catalogs, illustrated and photo books. Custom grids, paragraph and character styles, GREP automation, and clean typography from the first page to the last. → Prepress & Preflight. Print-ready PDF/X-1a and PDF/X-4, CMYK conversion, bleed and margins, overprint, trapping, transparency, rich black, total ink limits, imposition. I also fix files other studios gave up on and sent back “as is.” → Cover Design & Setup. Front, back and spine built to the exact trim size, page count and paper stock. Print-ready for both offset and print-on-demand. If you’re working with an illustrator, I can handle the technical side for you: a cover template with bleed and safe zones, scan and file requirements, and layout guidance, so the artwork fits the cover and prints without surprises. → Image Prep. Sourcing images from licensed stock libraries, or quick AI concept mockups to visualize an idea before an artist starts (always clearly disclosed). Color correction, cleanup and upscaling of illustrations and low-resolution images so they hold up in print. → Special Finishes. Technical files for die-cutting, embossing and debossing, foil stamping and spot UV: separate spot-color layers and masks, correct overprint settings, and registration tolerances matched to your printer’s specs. → KDP & IngramSpark Setup (on request). Once the print edition is ready, I adapt the interior and cover files to platform specs. TOOLS Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Lightroom, Illustrator, Acrobat Pro, PitStop Pro, Preps, Quite Imposing, CorelDRAW. WHY CLIENTS HIRE ME → You work with me directly, start to finish. No account managers, no outsourcing. → I ask for your printer’s spec sheet upfront, so the file is built to match instead of guessed at. → When something changes (a new edition, another platform, an extra print run), I already know your book. It’s a quick update, not a new project. Have a manuscript ready for layout, or a PDF that keeps getting rejected? Send it over, and I’ll tell you exactly what it needs. 😊
