I'm Emily 🌶 A storyteller, writer, and passionate people person with a Bachelor's Degree in Women & Gender Studies. Here's what you need to know about me: I'm intense, thorough, and passionate 🔥 Most recently I was leveraging my experience as a freelance writer + expert communicator to help Clients find their perfect freelance match and freelancers find their dream opportunity via Contra. Operating as a team of 1 at a small tech startup, I learned to thrive by executing big ideas quickly, without sacrificing quality. Nothing inspires me like a good idea, and once I get excited I'll hammer away until the vision in my head becomes real. Here are a few critical things I learned at Contra: all things email marketing, how to talk to startup founders and small business CEOs to translate their visions into reality, the importance of process and documentation, how to run a user interview and translate that feedback into product optimizations, how to use data to inform strategy. I'm perceptive, empathic, and sensitive 💖 I know how to make people feel things. As a highly sensitive person, a poet, a romantic, an over-analyst, and a daydreamer—I see it as my duty to translate, frame, and explain big feelings to the world, to communicate and express big ideas and emotions to those around me. I have both intentionally and unintentionally been a storyteller since I could speak and a writer since the moment I could hold a pencil, because as so many people have put it to me throughout my life—this is my gift. From my poetry publications, to my freelance writing business, to being the designated copywriter or editor in every position I've ever held—writing is a staple of my life and the skill I'd hang my hat on. In addition to this experience, my degree in Women + Gender Studies prepares me to speak to today's audiences intentionally, empathetically, and with great care. My writer's instincts combined with this cultural knowledge uniquely prepare me to speak to many different types of audiences, customers, etc. I can't wait to start learning about and speaking to yours!
