Staton R.
Screenwriter (Originals & Adaptations), Novelist, & Editor
STATON RABIN is a pro screenwriter, a YA novelist (Simon & Schuster) with a global audience, and a freelance story analyst who evaluates screenplays and books for writers and producers. She coaches screenwriters and book authors at all levels of experience (from beginners to pros), and since she's a working screenwriter and novelist herself, she understands writers' unique challenges and triumphs. She evaluates stories, provides actionable script and editorial notes, and coaches writers in consultations. Writers set up phone meetings with Staton to get 'unstuck', test out their logline or plot, prepare for pitch meetings, get script marketing advice-- or get tutored in any aspect of screenwriting. Staton is also hired by film and TV producers to write scripts with starring roles that are catnip to A-list actors. Recently, Staton wrote a feature script, "The Girl From Krakow" (Austin Film Festival Screenplay Competition Semifinalist), and a TV pilot for a limited TV series, "Instruments of Night"-- both of which were based on books by other writers-- on assignment for Afterglow Pictures and Two Jacks Productions, and a TV pilot script for a limited series, "Black Ranger", for Timothy Ashby, based on his historical novel, RANGER. Her original drama/comedy script "Saving Mark Twain" won the 2023 Bronze Prize in the PAGE Awards and also won "best feature script" in the Vail Film Festival Screenplay Competition. Her award-winning novel BETSY AND THE EMPEROR is published in 15 languages, and was optioned for a movie at one time with Al Pacino attached to star, as reported in "Variety". Unfailingly reliable, producers trust her to get the job done. With a degree in Film from NYU and a background as a freelance story analyst for Warner Bros. Pictures, the former William Morris Agency (now WME), and Final Draft's Big Break Screenwriting Competition, for whom she evaluated thousands of scripts- and experience as a teacher of screenwriting-- Staton is now a screenplay analyst for screenwriters and producers. She brings a mastery of story structure, an analytical mind, and a creative, cooperative spirit to every screenwriting and script or book analysis assignment.
