An artistic lighting designer with a passion for storytelling.

An innovative, artistic lighting designer with a passion for storytelling and a record of leadership. In my nearly fifteen years since graduating college with a BA in Theatre Arts, my dozens of architectural and theatrical lighting projects have all been centered on transporting customers to specific worlds by blending my understanding of the art of storytelling with the science of engineering. My first design job after college was a CAD drafter for a biopharmaceutical architectural/engineering firm- DPS Engineering- where my dedication, tenacity, and prior understanding of lighting electrical systems quickly catapulted me from Junior MEP designer to a Commissioning and Validation Engineer, testing electrical system protocols for newly-constructed research clean room laboratories. When my girlfriend’s parents bought a 60-year old replica cannon making company called RBG Cannons, I exercised my creative juices by helping to redesign various cannon models and their wooden carriages, and actually building the carriages by hand. I had an opportunity to work with Schussler Creative on an undisclosed Orlando attraction (that I believe is Walt Disney World's Mark Twain Steam Boat). In addition to being employed as an engineer and a craftsman, my then-girlfriend and I created a theatre education foundation - The DAVE Project - in memory of my late father. His passion for the arts had impacted everyone around him throughout the course of his life, and we as Dedicated Artists for the Vitality of arts Education decided we would work to make an impact on school-age children whose public schools had greatly reduced their performing arts education classes. In its short two years as an active group, The DAVE Project provided little-to-no-cost performing arts classes to three different schools, instructed by actively practicing professionals. Once The DAVE Project slowed down, I began to return to theatrical lighting with various theatrical groups around Providence, RI, including the highly-acclaimed Wilbury Group. Designing more creative projects than biopharmaceutical facilities was a welcome change and designing lights and sets for environments such as full-scale professional wrestling rings was very personally fulfilling. Also, during this time (and also for personal fulfilment), I spent weekends working at Six Flags New England’s Fright Fest as a specialist for lighting, electrical, A/V, interior set and atmospheric designer. Unfortunately, these gigs were not as financially lucrative as I needed for a newly-married young man, but they sparked the interest in architectural lighting – combining the principles of theatrical lighting that I knew and loved with the designing, calculating, and engineering that I had come to also enjoy. In a combined effort to follow architectural lighting design career potential and also facilitate my then-girlfriend’s acting career, I moved to New York and WSP, spending a few months with their electrical engineering team before quickly jumping over the architectural lighting team and finally managing my first architectural lighting projects from concept to construction. Always seeking opportunities to grow and expand my skills, I spent much of my time at WSP on the 15-person team of emerging professionals representing WSP’s 6,000+ national employees, becoming one of the group’s main leaders and forging a direct relationship with the company’s CEO. However, after several years at WSP, a realization that advancement opportunities did not exist, I received an offer from a recruiter to move to sunny Los Angeles to work with an award-winning architectural lighting design firm – BOLD. Who could say no?! I thoroughly enjoyed the wide variety of projects in my portfolio at BOLD as a Project Manager and Lead Designer and have learned an invaluable amount on projects including retail, residential, hospitality, exterior façade, corporate, and even some of the world’s largest tech firms’ headquarters. Due to the passing of my mother, I was forced to leave BOLD and return home to Rhode Island for family. Once I was ready to re-enter the workforce, I was hired by EXP in Orlando, FL. A leader in engineering themed entertainment and high-end hospitality projects, I spent my four years at EXP designing some of the most exciting, high-profile theme park attractions and luxury resorts in the world. My responsibilities at EXP included not just design, but client management, creation of conceptual proposals/renderings, and on-site construction oversight. When a group of friends and former coworkers formed a residential lighting design company also in Orlando, I jumped at the opportunity to bring my skills to the homes of individuals and families across the state of Florida.
