Emily S.

Hello! I have excellent professional skills in editing, proofreading, transcribing, & helping teach AI to be more realistic as an English Generalist. I adore reading & writing, & always have since the minute I learned how to read and write. Outside the English world of editing, reading, & writing, I have a wide variety of interests & areas, which I have varying degrees of knowledge about, & I am deeply knowledgeable in numerous types of law from being Pre-Law, as well as politics & philosophy after minoring in them. I have always had a very keen eye for details in writing (as well as other mediums such as voice audio & video). I am always consistent in finding the mistakes in spelling, grammar, punctuation, & whether or not a story/plot makes sense & flows well as a sentence. I am skilled at honing in on work projects that require my absolute focus & attention. Even at a much younger age, I enjoyed proofreading my older sister's college essays for fun while I was still just a senior in high school. I have a willing spirit & am very eager to succeed for any client I work for, to learn new professional techniques & ways to be more efficient, & to work hard at whatever I do to bring about the best results, particularly when there is a tight deadline. Whenever I give someone my word, I will do anything to fulfill the job expected of me, as integrity & transparency are two things I value most. You can always rely upon me to follow instructions to a "t" & never give a client back anything with errors, as I strive for perfection. It has been instilled in me from a very young age to try to be the very best at whatever I do, whether when I was young & it was about the sports I was playing in or nowadays it being my editing work or AI annotation work, which always served me well at exceeding expectations in my educational & professional responsibilities. In my very early education, I was homeschooled with my own mother as my teacher, & this set me up to be at a much higher level of ability & skill than my peers when I joined public school, which has continued ever since. I've always been an avid journaler & love writing about my life experiences, which helps me to reflect on how I am growing & what I can change & do better at. All my life, I have been interested & highly skilled in reading books of high literary value very quickly & writing creative short stories, as well as non-fictional memoirs, critical reviews, essays, poetry, & song lyrics. Due to an unexpected onset of a life-changing diagnosis of the incurable, chronic autoimmune disease called Lupus as well as Fibromyalgia back in 2012, I unfortunately became physically disabled at the young age of 24. Therefore, though it crushed me, I was unable to finish the last semester of my schooling at Drake University, where I was to graduate with my Bachelor's Degree, & continue on to law school, & that had been my dream for years. After many arduous years of having to focus on & prioritize my health above anything else, I have had to learn how to live with & manage my chronic illness, Lupus. As of several years ago, I finally reached a point where I'm at least healthy enough & able to re-enter the workforce. However, I have many limitations & am still disabled, as Lupus is a lifelong disease. Working online with my special skills as a proofreader is something I can excel at while still maintaining my own health needs as someone with a unique set of circumstances due to disability. Many people expect someone in my position to think of having this illness as a weakness or as something to hide & not talk about, but I disagree; I see the many hardships I've had to overcome due to the complexity of living with a cruel & unpredictable illness like Lupus as an immense strength of mine. It teaches me daily to work hard no matter what, to persevere & endure, & honestly that I have already accomplished in ten+ years more than many people will endure in a whole lifetime. Besides my love of the English realm, like I said before, I have many other interests. I enjoy helping & serving other people, especially those who are particularly maligned or vulnerable in society. I deeply love & care for animals & about the natural world, plus doing anything we can to take care of the environment. I love connecting with people & have great verbal & nonverbal communication skills. My relationships & connections with people, regardless of what kind of relationship it may be, are the most important thing in the world to me. I will always work hard to maintain my relationships with others whether it is for a season or a lifetime, & I find great joy comes from that. I value compassion, empathy, & kindness above all. Having an "invisible" chronic illness has given me a unique perspective & outlook on life as a thirty-something woman in this chaotic, confusing, complex world that we all live in together. I hope to be considered a worthy potential employee, & I can't wait to hear from you. :)
