Vanesa P.
Fiction Writing Coach | Story, Character & Novel Development
You know something isn't working in your story. Maybe the character isn't coming alive, a scene isn't creating the effect you intended, or you've received feedback but still don't know what to do with it. I help fiction writers understand what's happening beneath the problem—and develop the craft awareness to make stronger decisions for themselves. My approach combines close reading, thoughtful questioning, fiction-craft analysis, and teaching. Rather than simply giving you a list of fixes, I want to help you understand how character, conflict, choice, scene, structure, prose, and reader experience are interacting in your story. I can help you with: - story and character problems - character motivation, conflict, and stakes - scenes that aren't landing - POV and narrative distance - pacing, tension, exposition, and dialogue - understanding and applying critique or editorial feedback - identifying why your pages aren't creating the reader experience you intended I'm a CRLA-certified Master Tutor (Level III) with more than a decade of fiction study and practice. I completed Wesleyan University's Creative Writing Specialization and am currently training in developmental editing at the Editorial Freelancers Association. I'm also a contributing editor for The Hoolet's Nook, a literary magazine publishing microfiction and poetry. My fiction experience on Upwork includes two 5-star ghostwriting contracts, and my professional background includes university teaching, research, and writing. Bring me the part of your story you can't quite figure out. We'll investigate it together.
