Senior Industrial Software Engineer | C#/C/C++, Embedded, PLC & AI

I help companies connect PLCs, industrial equipment, embedded devices, databases, and reporting applications using reliable industrial software and modern AI-assisted engineering workflows. I am a senior software engineer specialising in industrial automation, embedded systems, industrial communications, and software integration. My work is focused on the interface between plant-floor equipment and the applications used to acquire, process, store, monitor, and report production data. I have more than 30 years of software engineering experience, including the development and maintenance of systems that communicate with PLCs, industrial controllers, embedded devices, desktop applications, databases, and backend services. My main areas of expertise include: • Industrial automation software • PLC-to-PC and PLC-to-server communications • Modbus TCP, Modbus RTU, serial communications, and TCP/IP • Data acquisition, monitoring, and reporting applications • Embedded development using ESP32, Arduino, and microcontrollers • C, C++, C#, Python, Java, and JavaScript • Integration between industrial equipment, applications, and databases • PostgreSQL, Informix, MySQL, and SQLite • Legacy industrial software maintenance and modernisation • Technical analysis, architecture, documentation, and project planning • AI-assisted software engineering and technical research In my current freelance engineering work with CPME-USA, I develop and support industrial automation solutions involving communication between PLCs and reporting or supervisory applications. This includes acquiring data from industrial equipment, validating and transforming it, and making it available to applications used for monitoring, reporting, traceability, and operational decision-making. I am comfortable working across several layers of an industrial solution, including PLC communications, protocol implementation, embedded software, desktop applications, services, databases, and reporting systems. This allows me to investigate integration problems that may involve multiple components, such as data types, byte ordering, protocol mapping, network communications, database structures, or application logic. I also use modern AI-assisted development tools, including OpenAI Codex and Claude, as part of a disciplined engineering workflow. I apply them to accelerate tasks such as: • Analysing unfamiliar or legacy codebases • Generating and reviewing implementation alternatives • Producing test cases and troubleshooting hypotheses • Improving technical documentation • Refactoring repetitive or difficult-to-maintain code • Researching APIs, protocols, and technology options • Preparing structured project plans and technical reports AI-generated results are always reviewed, tested, and validated against the actual system requirements. I use AI as an engineering accelerator, not as a replacement for technical judgement, domain knowledge, or accountability. This combination of industrial experience and AI-assisted engineering allows me to analyse complex systems more quickly, document them more clearly, and deliver solutions with better traceability and maintainability. I also have experience coordinating complex technical assessments. In a recent ERP modernisation engagement, I acted as Project Manager while another engineer led the software-porting analysis. I coordinated the assessment of the existing Informix-based system, helped define the proposed architecture and project scope, organised the work using Scrum practices, and prepared the milestones, cost considerations, risks, and estimated timeline for presentation to the end client. My approach is practical and engineering-focused. I analyse the existing system carefully, identify the actual technical constraints, and propose solutions that can be implemented, tested, operated, and maintained in a real production environment. Clients can expect: • Clear and professional communication • Structured troubleshooting and technical analysis • Responsible use of AI-assisted engineering tools • Realistic effort and schedule estimates • Detailed technical documentation • Careful handling of production and legacy systems • Strong collaboration with engineers, managers, and end users My Upwork record includes more than 4,000 hours of work, a 100% Job Success Score, and consistent 5-star client feedback. I am particularly interested in projects involving PLC integration, industrial communications, embedded development, production-data acquisition, reporting systems, industrial protocol implementation, legacy automation software, and AI-assisted modernisation of existing engineering systems.
