What does it mean to write with personality? It’s a question no writer can ignore. However, it holds special nuance for a freelance copywriter and content writer, like myself, who crafts sentences and paragraphs in accordance with the desired voice of the client. This voice will range from bubbly to serious, depending on the product or service being sold. It’s not what I consider to be the “personality.” To me, personality is the substance. It’s the curiosity that clients are praising when they say my articles are “well-researched.” When they call my work are “fun to read,” it’s because I’ve made sure that the perceived author of the piece—which would be the client, not me—came across as someone you’d like to grab drinks with, even if they work in the driest industry imaginable. It’s the originality that I’ve developed upon reading too many blog posts that began with “In today’s evolving digital landscape…” and resolving never to start a blog post that way. It’s the consistent effort I’ve made to see through the eyes of the prospective customer, discerning the questions and concerns that cross their mind each day.
