Former college prof now freelancing: write, edit, proof, beta, narrate
Thank you for visiting my profile! A bit about me: I have a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences and over the past few years have transitioned from teaching to non-fiction writing and editing. I have extensive experience reviewing, editing, and writing science-based materials, including textbooks, curriculum, grants, and presentations. Editing and Proofreading: I spent two decades in a field where clear, concise written communication is vital. I have written, edited, and/or reviewed grants, articles, manuscripts, book chapters, manuals, newsletters, and (of course) student lessons. Educational materials: Yep, if it has something to do with teaching, I've probably done it. I've worked on lots of different platforms and designed curriculum for many different formats (e.g., online, face-to-face, and hybrid). I can do small tasks like summarizing an article and creating questions, or bigger tasks like creating presentations, designing labs and activities, and building assessments. I can also adjust as needed for specific age groups/learning levels. I am VERY good at simplifying complicated topics. My most recent contract was a standards-based biology textbook with all the parts, including teaching guides and assessments. The fun stuff: Narration: I have a clear, pleasant, mid-American voice (female) and am vocally expressive. I communicate well and pay attention to details! For narration, my preferred genre(s) include children’s books, non-fiction (e.g., self-help), and science fiction/fantasy... but I am open to other projects if they fit my skill sets and interests. If you aren't sure if I would be interested in a project, feel free to ask!! Writing: I love to write, and I'm best with non-fiction. Preferred topics include animals, biology, evolution, paleobiology, fossils, and education. Again, just ask if you aren't sure. Thanks!
