Yara A.

Master's degree holder in English and Comparative Literature, along with the CELTA, I’ve been teaching English since 2016. As an aficionado of books and independent cinema, I integrate video clips, music and literature into my classes to encourage student engagement. I also love writing myself, and this informs my approach to teaching writing. When helping students with college and admission essays, I serve as a guide, helping them find their own voice, express their ideas authentically, and maintain their own tone throughout the writing process rather than writing for them. When not teaching, I read biography, novels and poems, and I also write short stories and free verse, which I self-publish. I have a score of 9 on IELTS and have worked at reputable organizations such as the British Council and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). I have extensive experience in inclusive education, having served as a Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Lead, supporting diverse learners and advising teachers on effective inclusive practices. I also have experience creating and adapting ESL/EFL learning materials for online instruction, with strong familiarity with CEFR standards, communicative language teaching, lesson scaffolding, and student-centered learning for beginner to advanced English learners.
