James H.

I'm a Senior/Lead Frontend Engineer with nearly 20 years of experience building web applications, with the last 8+ years specialising in React, TypeScript, design systems and scalable frontend architecture. I've worked within large financial organisations and technology companies, including Barclays and Droit, where I've built frontend foundations and reusable UI systems used across multiple teams and applications. I can help with: • React and TypeScript application development • Frontend architecture and technical direction • Design systems and component libraries • Storybook setup, development and migrations • Complex data-heavy UIs using TanStack Table and AG Grid • Accessibility and reusable UI patterns • Frontend testing with Vitest and Playwright • Monorepos, package architecture and CI/CD • React performance and code quality • Reviewing or improving an existing frontend codebase I'm particularly useful when you need an experienced engineer to come into an existing project, understand it quickly and solve a specific frontend problem — whether that's a few days of consultancy, improving an existing architecture, or contributing hands-on to a longer project. My focus is on building solutions that don't just work today, but remain maintainable as your product and engineering team grow.
