Words are never just words. A single word can change the entire feeling of a sentence. Two phrases can have almost the same meaning, yet create completely different reactions depending on the words, tone and context. That is what fascinates me about language. I don’t only look at what a message says. I look at how it sounds, what it means in context, how naturally it flows, and how it will be understood by the person receiving it. That matters even more when language crosses cultures. A translation can be grammatically correct and still feel wrong. The words may be accurate, but the message can sound unnatural, too literal or disconnected from the people it is meant for. That is where I come in. I’m a Xhosa and Zulu Translation Specialist and Localization Project Manager with experience in translation, localization, linguistic review, subtitling, transcription, voice projects, linguistic research and AI language data. My focus is simple: helping messages sound natural, culturally relevant and true to the people they are intended for. For Xhosa and Zulu, I pay attention to more than individual words. I consider tone, context, cultural meaning, natural expression and the way people actually communicate. I want the person reading the message to understand it without feeling that they are reading something translated. Because I don’t want someone to read a translation and think: “This was translated.” I want them to think: “This sounds like it was written for me.” I can support projects involving: Translation & Localization • English to isiXhosa • English to isiZulu • South African English • Localization and cultural adaptation • Proofreading and linguistic review • Linguistic QA and quality control • Terminology and consistency checks Subtitling, Transcription & Voice • SRT and subtitle translation • Subtitle QA • Transcription • Voice-over and voice recording • Speech and voice data collection • AI/TTS voice projects AI & Linguistic Data • AI and LLM evaluation • Linguistic annotation • Language data collection • Linguistic research • AI-generated content review • Language and cultural validation Localization Project Management • Project coordination • Linguist and vendor coordination • Talent sourcing and onboarding • Task allocation and workflow tracking • Quality control and linguistic review My obsession with language started when I was eight. I had a story I wanted to share with a friend, but we did not speak the same language. It was a small moment, but it taught me something I never forgot. When people cannot understand each other, the message can disappear. Today, my work is about making sure it doesn’t. Whether I’m translating a document, reviewing an AI-generated sentence, checking subtitles, recording a voice sample or coordinating a localization project, I always come back to the same question: Does this actually sound right to the person receiving it? Because there is a difference between: “It’s translated.” and “It speaks to me.” I aim for the second. If you need a Xhosa or Zulu language professional who cares about the words, the meaning and everything in between, feel free to message me.
