Experienced Quilter
*Between my math skills and my quilting/sewing skills, I have gotten proficient at drafting patterns and calculating fabric requirements. *Since I have taught high school math for years, I have honed the skill of finding mistakes in my own work and the work of others. *I have outstanding spelling skills which makes me a good editor. *I have a love of teaching others all kinds of things—sewing, quilting, knitting, algebra—whatever I know, I love to share. * I have taught quilting and sewing to both children and adults. *Before beginning a new quilt pattern execution, I read through it all and often find better ways that conserve fabric (I am stingy with my fabric and don’t like to waste any). *During my years of teaching and the screen printing business my family owned years ago, I got very good at creating artwork in Corel Draw. I will be taking a class at Ole Miss in the fall to begin learning Adobe Illustrator. Making illustrations of geometric patterns for quilting would be something I could do. *As a school teacher, I always seek to share new material with students in a way that makes sense. This carries over into how I teach quilting. There are usually multiple ways to do something that yields the same results. I use this same philosophy in my instruction of quilting students. Quilting is a skill that manifests itself in many ways. Not everyone is going to get the same results. However, I always want students leaving my class feeling like they have learned new skills and/or alternate ways to make blocks or units.
