3D Industrial Product Designer Mechanical CAD Product Development
Have a product idea, sketch, prototype, or existing product that needs to become manufacturable? I help founders and product companies turn physical product concepts into engineered, prototype-ready and production-ready products through Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering, 3D CAD and DFM. A client might come to me saying: “I have the concept.” “I have a sketch.” “I already have a prototype.” “We need to manufacture this.” “We need production-ready files.” “I'm not sure if this design is actually feasible.” That is where I'm most useful. Before We Design Anything...... I ask a few important questions: Who is this product for? What problem does it solve? Why will someone choose it over the competition? What makes your product different? Answering these questions early can save thousands of dollars in redesigns later. HOW I APPROACH PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT I don't blindly model what is on the page. I look at the product as something that must be made, assembled, used, tested and produced at a reasonable cost. Before I model the final geometry, I'd first evaluate the proposed manufacturing process, material constraints, assembly strategy, and critical tolerances. If any part of the current concept creates unnecessary tooling, production, or assembly risk, I'd flag it before it becomes an expensive prototype change. My process may include: • Concept and feasibility assessment • Industrial Design and product architecture • Mechanical Design and engineering development • Parametric 3D CAD and assemblies • DFM/DFA and design optimization • Material and component selection • Mechanisms, interfaces, tolerances and fit • Prototype development and iteration • Manufacturing drawings, BOMs and technical documentation • Production-ready / manufacturing-ready CAD packages • Product visualization and presentation renders FROM CONCEPT TO PRODUCTION My focus is not simply creating a good-looking 3D model. The CAD needs to communicate what the product is, how it works, how it fits together, and how a manufacturer can build it. I work with manufacturing requirements involving FDM and SLA 3D printing, TPU 3D printing, injection molding, compression molding, CNC machining, laser cutting, CAM/CNC production, machine fabrication, electronics prototyping and PCB integration. For physical products, I support consumer products, pet products, toys, wearables, mechanical products, enclosures and 3D printed products. SOFT GOODS & PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT I also work on soft-goods product development, where the challenge shifts to construction, materials and production specifications. This includes Soft Goods Design, Product Development, Tech Packs, technical specifications, measurements, materials, construction details, manufacturing documentation and factory-ready information for products such as bags, apparel, footwear, pet products and other sewn or flexible products. A design isn't finished because it looks good. It is finished when it is clear enough to prototype, quote, revise and manufacture. WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT TO RECEIVE Depending on your project, deliverables can include: • Industrial Design concepts and product development • 3D CAD / parametric CAD • Mechanical Design and assemblies • SolidWorks / CAD source files • STEP / STL and prototype-ready files • Engineering and manufacturing drawings • BOMs and assembly documentation • DFM recommendations • Prototype-development files • Tooling / fixture considerations • Soft Goods Tech Packs • Manufacturing specifications • Product visualization and photorealistic renders Deliverables are tailored to your current stage and next milestone. If you're a founder, startup, inventor, or product company with a physical product that needs to move from idea → engineering → prototype → manufacturing, I would rather understand the product and its constraints first than rush into CAD. Send me what you have even if it's only a sketch, reference images, an existing product, or an early prototype. We can start by identifying what needs to be solved before the next expensive step.
