Nina C.

I'm a seasoned copy editor with more than a decade of experience and a passion for helping people communicate through clear and effective writing. My experience includes: - 5 years as a senior editor for a leading online editing firm, where I edited more than 13 million words' worth of documents for a diverse international clientele - 10+ years as a freelance editor - my own award-winning master's thesis and "beautifully written" doctoral dissertation - 8 academic publications, both solo and co-authored, in top-ranked peer-reviewed journals I hold a PhD in Applied Linguistics with a focus on second-language writing. My expertise spans academic content in the social sciences and education, nonfiction manuscripts, and business content such as whitepapers, business reports, slide decks, and other professional communications. I specialize in applying APA style (7th ed.) and Chicago style (18th ed.). Writing is challenging, and that’s why I bring empathy and a supportive approach to every editing project. My goal is to understand your needs and goals as a writer, then offer edits and constructive feedback to help you connect with your audience and communicate your message effectively. I specialize in working with multilingual writers and people with dyslexia. If you’ve ever feared that your writing could hold you back or make you look less capable than you are, I understand and I can help. I look forward to connecting and learning more about your editing needs! Testimonials from my previous clients: “A few words to describe Nina: thorough, precise, patient, communicative, on-time, kind, fair, a life saver. Of particular note is Nina’s range of what she can offer—whether it is correcting my myriad spelling errors, righting upside-down grammar or mapping an entire novel for continuity errors, Nina seems able to handle whatever I throw at her. Honestly, handing Nina a huge mess and getting back a clean, streamlined draft is one of life’s small miracles. As a writer, I have no idea how I would function without her.” Fiction Writer San Francisco, United States “Precise, professional, and thoughtful, Nina’s editing work outperforms other editing services I have used over the years. Her ability to respect my voice and intention is exceptional. I highly recommend Nina.” Professor of Language & Literacy Education Vancouver, Canada “I have been working with Nina for several years. She was exceptionally helpful with editing my book and several academic journal articles. The level of detail in her edits and the thoughtful, informative comments that she provides are unmatched. Nothing escapes her critical eye—from small typos and APA style violations, to unclear arguments or imprecise word choice. I am particularly impressed with how versed she is in the jargon, writing style and major concepts across various disciplines. This allows her to make very astute suggestions that I did not expect someone outside of my field to be able to make. I know that running anything by her before submitting it for publication will take it to the next level.” Associate Professor of Communication at Chapman University Orange County, United States “Nina is extremely meticulous, rigorous, and professional, offering detailed comments and clear suggestions. Beyond proofreading, she has also explained how particular conventions and linguistic rules apply to my writing, thereby helping me to further improve my writing beyond the reviewed text. Our collaboration began 8 years ago during my dissertation writing, and since then, I have continued to rely on her expertise. We have exchanged various academic and professional documents, including CVs, cover letters, conference proposals, and research papers. Despite the era of generative AI, I will continue to work with her as she elevates my writing, simultaneously helping me to maintain my academic voice and style. She remains a trusted friend and colleague whom I greatly value working with. Thank you, Nina, for your invaluable contributions!” Academic Researcher and Instructor Winnipeg, Canada
