Simon A.
AI & Embedded Systems Engineer | Rust, C/C++, CUDA, Edge ML
I build AI systems that run on real hardware in real environments. If you need an engineer who can take a machine learning model from a Jupyter notebook to a production embedded device, I've done it more than once. My recent work includes an AI weapons detection system built from scratch to industry-grade standards, and autonomous solar technology that tracks the sun and responds to proximity in outdoor conditions. Both shipped, both run in the field. Before that, I led development on self-driving perception stacks and built vision pipelines that process sensor data on NVIDIA edge hardware. I work across the full stack of AI and embedded engineering. On any given week I might be writing Rust firmware for a microcontroller, optimizing CUDA kernels for real-time inference, training models in TensorFlow or PyTorch, or debugging a CI/CD pipeline. I'm comfortable wherever the work needs to happen. What I do well: I deploy computer vision and machine learning models onto constrained hardware, from NVIDIA Jetson to custom microcontroller platforms. I handle the full path from training to optimized inference on the edge. I have deep experience writing drivers and system software in C/C++ and Rust for embedded Linux, microcontrollers, and safety critical applications. I've built perception and control software for self-driving vehicles and solar tracking systems using proprietary and open source AI, processed on both cloud and edge. I automate testing and deployment with GitHub CI/CD and manage PostgreSQL cloud architectures with encryption and digital signatures for tamper prevention. I work directly with hardware and firmware teams to bring up unified systems, including vehicle dashboards, sensor arrays, and solar tracking rigs. Why clients keep coming back: I've piloted systems in the field. The solar towers I built autonomously track the sun and detect proximity with no manual intervention. I know how to get performance out of limited resources. I optimize for uptime and low overhead in environments where you can't throw more compute at the problem. I take security seriously. Encryption, digital signatures, and access controls are built in from the start on every project I touch. I ship reliably. CI/CD automation means my releases are tested, predictable, and on schedule. I've led development teams on complex hardware and software projects and I'm comfortable owning the technical direction. Industries I've worked across: autonomous vehicles, renewable energy (solar), security and surveillance, aerospace, and fintech. Send me a message with your project details and I'll let you know if I'm a good fit.
