Photographs that need proper plate sections instead of floating awkwardly mid-paragraph. Journal pages a reader actually writes on. Workbook exercises, sidebars, pull quotes, chapter openers that carry a mood. A text-only novel is the easy case. My work starts where the layout has to do something. You get a print-ready PDF built to your exact trim size, bleed and margin spec for Amazon KDP and IngramSpark, plus the editable source file, so the book stays yours. Questions authors ask me before we start Can you handle a book with a lot of photographs? Yes, and that is the work I want. Plate sections, captions set beneath a hairline rule, image placement that respects the gutter, and CMYK preparation where your printer requires it. Can you design a guided journal or a workbook? Yes. Writing lines, prompt pages, repeating spread templates, section dividers, and a master template so every future volume in the series matches without being rebuilt. Do I need separate files for KDP and IngramSpark? Yes. They are two different print specifications from the same manuscript, so they need two separate print-ready builds. Most authors only discover this when IngramSpark rejects the KDP file. If you want bookstores and libraries to be able to order your book, tell me at the start. Building both together costs less than coming back for it later. Do you work in InDesign? No. I design in Affinity Publisher and deliver a print-ready PDF plus the native source file. If your printer specifically requires a native .indd or .idml file, I am not the right designer for you, and I will tell you that in the first message rather than halfway through the project. How long does it take? 10-14 days for a full illustrated interior from the moment I have the final manuscript and images. Simpler interiors are faster. You get a firm date before you pay anything. What do you need from me to start? The final manuscript, your images at print resolution, your trim size, and one book whose interior you admire. That last one saves us both a revision round.
