Developmental editing works on structure: what order the chapters go in, what is missing, what the reader will lose patience with, and whether the book delivers what the opening promises. You receive a written editorial report, not tracked changes. Copy editing works line by line on grammar, punctuation, consistency, and clarity, delivered as tracked changes in your manuscript. I format the interior, prepare print and ebook files, and upload to Amazon KDP and IngramSpark. I do not take on formatting-only work for manuscripts I have not edited or proofread. How long does it take? Developmental editing on a 10,000-word manuscript takes 48 hours. Copy editing takes 72 hours. Proofreading takes 4 days. I confirm the exact date before the contract starts, and I have never missed one. How much will my book cost to edit? It depends on word count, genre, and how much work the draft needs.
