Marine Biologist & Policy Advisor | Project & Event Coordination

I am Luis Carrasco, a Marine Biologist from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (2013–2019) and currently a Master’s candidate in Public Policy at the same university. I work as a Content and Programming Advisor for the Future Council, part of the Senate of Chile’s Commission on Future Challenges, Science, Technology, and Innovation. In this role, I coordinate the production and organization of various editions of Congreso Futuro and Congreso Jóvenes Futuro. I have been actively involved in Wikimedia as a Director (and, since 2023, Treasurer) of Wikimedia Chile, with 16 years of experience as a contributor on Wiki projects. I have helped organize international competitions such as the Wiki Science Competition and led workshops on integrating scientific knowledge into Wikipedia. I also coordinate initiatives to strengthen the Wikimedia community around climate justice, gender diversity, and the visibility of Indigenous voices. My career combines scientific outreach with public policy analysis and environmental management. I have collaborated on municipal projects (including Puentes UC and DAOGA in Maipú) and provided scientific advisory services to Senate authorities on issues such as biodiversity, conservation, and sustainable development. Additionally, I volunteered with Explora and Congreso Futuro (2017–2019) and served as President of the Marine Sciences Students Association of Chile (2017–2020). Currently, I also serve as President of the Cerrillos Communal Environmental Committee (since 2023) and am a member of organizations like the Socio-Environmental Movement for Water and Territory (MOSACAT). My interests focus on ecosystem protection, promoting citizen science, and building open knowledge networks, always guided by a collaborative and multidisciplinary approach.
