Somewhere in your book is the line that made you start writing it. A good editor protects that line, and fixes everything that’s getting in its way. I am a children’s book editor and developmental editor with an MA in Creative Writing and more than six years of writing and editing experience. I work with authors who have a strong idea but feel the story is slow, unclear or uneven, and I help them strengthen it without losing their voice. For every manuscript, I look at both the big picture and the sentence level. Developmental editing improves structure, pacing, plot and characters, so readers keep turning pages. Line and copy editing makes your prose clearer and more consistent while keeping it sounding like you. Proofreading catches the final typos and formatting slips before your book goes out. If you are unsure what your manuscript needs, I can assess it and show you where editing will make the biggest difference. Children’s books are my specialty, including picture books, early readers, chapter books, middle grade, educational books and workbooks. I pay close attention to word choice, rhythm and repetition for the child’s age, so the book works for the young reader and for the parent reading it aloud. My background in children’s writing, editing and teaching helps me see these books through a young reader’s eyes. I also edit Christian books for children and teens. In that work I protect the author’s message, flag any line that touches doctrine for you to decide, and never change what you believe. I edit fiction, memoirs, self-help and educational nonfiction as well, for both first-time and experienced authors. I edit in Microsoft Word using tracked changes and comments, so you can see every change and decide which ones stay.
