👋🏻 I’m Ben Derico, an SF‑based documentary filmmaker. I also run Sidekick Video, where I bring the same story-first approach to science and climate films. After years on staff at the BBC covering science and technology, I’m now focused on science and climate storytelling, translating complex research about our natural world (and the people working to protect it) into clear, human stories. 📝 My work has appeared in The Intercept, The Guardian, CNN, The Washington Post, and Público (Portugal). I hold a master’s from UC Berkeley’s Graduate School of Journalism, where my thesis documentary Hasta la última gota (about Chile’s fight for water during the 2022 push for a new constitution) premiered at the Mill Valley Film Festival and later had its international premiere at the Banff Mountain Film Festival. I work in English, Spanish, and Portuguese.
