EHS Writer | OSHA & Army Safety Programs, SOPs, Training | Paramedic
I write safety programs, SOPs, and training that hold up in an inspection and make sense to the people doing the work. I'm a U.S.-based EHS professional and licensed paramedic with more than 17 years in safety and emergency medicine. Most recently I owned the OSHA program portfolio at a U.S. Army ammunition plant, modernized all of their SOPs and controlled forms, and led incident investigations to root cause. The site passed an unannounced federal EPA inspection with zero violations. Before that, I built a workers' compensation claim process from scratch for a manufacturer with sites across the U.S. and Canada. Why I'm different At first glance, my background looks all over the board: paramedic, law enforcement degree, MBA, EHS. But each and every one has made me more in tune with safety and risk. I've been the one on scene when something goes wrong, and I've been the one writing the program so it doesn't happen again. I get to see it from both sides of the line. How I work I work with the people in the field, not against them. I explain the actual why, not just "you will get hurt." Before I write a program or procedure, I want to understand the job, so what's on paper matches what people actually do. I hear what you need, not just listen and forget. I act. A few examples - At Cambria there was no workers' comp program. There were just files and there was no handle on them. I built the process, trained leadership, and built a relationship with every location. In two years flat, open claims dropped 50 percent, average spend per claim dropped 56 percent, and litigation dropped 36 percent. - At Cambria I also took an on-site Nurse Practitioner clinic from square zero to executive approval: the research, visits to other on-site clinics, the planning, and the business case. - Quartz countertop installers were sitting on cheap patio cushions they bought at thrift stores. I researched better seat cushions and had them tested in a truck. Within 48 hours they were mandated in every installer truck. - At the Army ammunition plant, I modernized document control for the site's SOPs and controlled forms and built a permit tracking system with a leadership dashboard. - I teach CPR, first aid, and AED classes built around the site: what people actually see on the job and where their actual supplies are. No lectures. - I've brought AED programs in-house at every job. Most recently, at the Army ammunition plant, I replaced a $3,500-a-year off-site AED service contract with an in-house inspection program for less than $1,000, a 75% savings, and trained the team to inventory and inspect the units themselves. What I can help with: - Written OSHA safety programs and SOPs - Safety training materials and site-specific training - Incident investigation reports and root cause write-ups - Workers' compensation and return-to-work procedures - Emergency response and CPR/first aid training programs - Environmental and hazardous waste compliance documents (RCRA, DOT hazmat, stormwater) - Reviewing existing safety documents for gaps - Healthcare, home care, and EMS safety programs and training - Paramedic review and fact-checking of medical and safety content - Resumes for career changers, including military, EMS, and healthcare Regulations I work with: OSHA general industry, EPA and state environmental reporting, RCRA, DOT hazardous materials, stormwater, and Army safety regulation (AR 385-10). Credentials: MBA, OSHA 30, HAZWOPER 40, AMMO-60 Technical Ammunition, ASP candidate, Nationally Registered Paramedic, AHA BLS Instructor. Send me what you have and what you need it to do, and I'll tell you if I'm the right fit.
