Terri M.
Experienced Writer, Systems Developer, Business Analyst
General Business, Operations, Supply Chain, Business Processes. Six Sigma certified. Writer, multiple-media editor and producer, and presenter. RFP/RFQ Responses. Systems Requirements. Complex Content. Technical Product Documentation. White Papers. Tear/Cut Sheets. Technical Editing. I've been engaged with various types of technical writing and documentation for over 30 years. I am also a hands-on software developer and web development pioneer. So writing about topics in software development - whether for business users, for a web site, or for marketing collateral is second nature. I’m versatile with special expertise in writing and editing technical manuals, process analysis using Six Sigma methods, addressing regulatory compliance (ADA, FDA, Exports). I have in-depth expertise with several technologies, and I’m following several current topics. I have written technical manuals for clients, articles on technical topics for publication, and a few books. I have produced live events. I created and brought together the talent to record a demo for an original audio drama. I’ve been an invited in-person presenter at technology and business events. I am the presenter for a series of over 1000 teaching videos on Chinese Martial Arts. My experience with multiple media channels, production issues, copyrights, coaching talent, and building online classes is highly transferable. The processes for print production don’t depend on the content, either. Concept development is much like business development. Sometimes the opportunity will present itself. Sometimes, someone has to define it and check it for quality. I work with topics in computer systems, medicine and medical devices, regulated environments (international trade and regulatory agencies). Setting up formats - the way the content fits, not the fonts - is something I'm quite good at. I'm also very good at handling and managing large content repositories. Being able to tag and then generate content from an application such as Confluence requires both technical and writing skills. I work quickly. I communicate well. I pay attention to the goals for the materials and the audience. What's appropriate for a developer audience is not the same as for a business leader. I have 25 years of comprehensive, international experience across small business, corporate, and government. When a large corporate client was looking for a way to reduce remainders at their retail outlets, I suggested an easy-to-implement change to add a metric earlier in the process. When a manufacturer was having trouble with quality, I helped train their staff to use statistical methods to find -- and correct -- the problem. In another situation, I created a Pro Forma that allowed for product variations across three currencies. Mapping business processes to software is not as easy as it sounds either. What needs to be presented? When? To whom? For one project, I showed the business owner how to adjust the display and presentation of his web application for technical services so that not only was it cleaner and easier to use, it kept the administrative menu out of view -- unless the user was an administrator.
