Diane P.
Technical Writer for software products
I work for a Fortune 500 company for ten years now, writing user guides and installation guides for software products that this company sells in the retail market worldwide. Through this work, I developed skills such as being keen on details, writing for specific audiences, validating procedures, and building relationships with subject matter experts (SMEs). Through hard work and perseverance, I was given a team lead role in 2015 to lead a group of technical writers. With this role, I have management tasks, including training new writers, making sure the team is on track with deadlines, and helping my teammates improve their skills. Also, I continued writing because new projects kept coming in and to lead by example for my team. We worked with SMEs based in India and the US and learned to adjust to the time difference. Years of experience have helped me hone my skills not only in technical writing but also in using tools such as Subversion, MadCap Flare, SnagIt, Adobe Acrobat, Confluence, and JIRA. Because of proprietary reasons, I cannot divulge each of my projects and deliverables. Still, I can share that these projects are primarily retail software products (used in stores) and that the deliverables are in web and PDF formats.
