I am a writer and editor with 20 years of experience in publications, marketing and communications. I write articles, speaking points, email content and website copy. I proofread and offer editing suggestions. The work I edit or write usually uses AP Style, but I have a strong working knowledge of the Chicago Manual of Style as well. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from the University of Texas at Austin (1997). I have knowledge of medical terminology from working at both a hospital and a lab as a phlebotomist as well as from taking a medical terminology course at University of Texas. I also took science classes when I attended the Veterinary Technology Institute of Houston to become a veterinary technician. Other areas of knowledge and interest include the environment (sustainability and conservation), food/cooking and non-profits. I worked for the city of Sugar Land from January 2013 to May 2019. As publications manager, I supported all the city's departments with their print needs and ensuring that branding, key messages and standards were maintained. I was tasked with presenting engaging and meaningful written content to Sugar Land residents. I crafted speaking remarks for the mayor and council members, mass mailings to residents, award applications and social media posts. For seven years (2002-2009), I was employed as the communications manager at the non-profit Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, California. I used the Chicago Manual of Style extensively while employed at the Aquarium. I was the editor of the member magazine and also created the monthly employee newsletter. I wrote about topics such as endangered species, ocean acidification, veterinary medicine for marine animals and numerous articles on different species. I hope to hear from you!
