Not ranking on ChatGPT, Perplexity, or Google AI Overviews? The problem may not be the content. It is the technical foundation of your website! If AI platforms cannot crawl, understand, and interpret your website, they may simply rank someone else. I have been working in Technical SEO since 2010 and have worked through every major update the SEO industry has seen. From Panda and Penguin to mobile-first indexing, Core Web Vitals, and now the latest AI era, through all of it, one thing has remained constant: "Websites with a strong technical foundation are better positioned to rank." That’s why many people get it wrong when they assume visibility in ChatGPT, Perplexity, or Google AI Overviews is purely a content problem. Content matters. But it’s only one part of the equation. These platforms rely on information they discover, crawl, understand, and interpret across your entire website. So if your architecture is weak or your technical signals are conflicting, publishing more content won’t fix the underlying problems. This is also where many SEO audits fall short. They run your website through a few tools, hand you a report, and call it an audit. I don’t work that way. I look at the source code, examine how your website is built, how AI crawlers move through it, how information is organised, and how your technical signals work together. The issues affecting search visibility are often not the things automated tools flag. They can be structural. They can exist in the architecture, crawl paths, indexability, rendering, or the way information is organised and signalled throughout the website.
