I am accredited by the Publishing Training Centre and have edited a variety of material in a freelance capacity, including manuscripts, reports, journal articles, presentations, marketing texts, personal correspondence, ESL documents and learning/testing materials aimed at teachers and students. Likewise, my clients have ranged from individual scholars and small businesses to corporate bodies and industry-leading educational companies such as McGraw-Hill, Pearson and the US College Board. The texts that I have worked with have required differing levels of editing, so I have experience of both proofreading and more extensive copy editing. In all cases, I am meticulous in my approach, paying attention to issues such as clarity, consistency, tone, accuracy and intended readership. I have a strong grasp of spelling and grammar, structural issues, regional variations and the importance of voice, and I am always punctual, reliable and conscientious. Likewise, I am accustomed to working with content management systems, engaging in online collaboration and offering and responding to feedback. In addition to my editing work, I have written study guides for several educational websites, the emphasis being on making the material accessible and engaging. Having worked as a writer, I am able to relate to the goals and challenges associated with writing to a greater extent than would be the case had I only ever worked as an editor. I hold a PhD in English and have therefore developed advanced written communication and analytical skills along with the ability to work independently. Additionally, I possess a research-based MPhil, an MA in English and a BA in Creative & Professional Writing, having graduated with first-class honours and the Outstanding Writer award. I am well-versed in all the major style guides (in addition to client style guides, where provided), and I am able to edit and annotate PDF documents, as well as standard doc/docx files.
