Sam P.

AI-Native Software Engineer | LLM Integration | Rails & .NET

I build software the way it's increasingly being built: AI agents write most of the code, and my job is everything that makes it trustworthy. That means clear specs, good architecture, thorough tests and careful review. I've been building software professionally for over 25 years, and that experience is what lets me move quickly with AI without leaving you with something fragile. "An excellent experience. Sam quickly picks up on both the technical requirements of a job and also immediately contributes to the overall strategic analysis and goals. So valuable." - Tim, Cazenovia Software "Sam very quickly understood the context of my project, which has multiple moving parts/technologies/languages. He was able to advise on a clear way forward in a way that addressed my concerns and goals. Thanks Sam!" - Daniel, SimpleDiagrams "Sam was a very good communicator, he understood my requirements without too much direction and went above and beyond what was required of him to deliver a job very well done!" - Brad, Insure and Away How I work: - Before anything is built, we agree what we're making and how we'll know it works. - AI agents do most of the implementation. I set the direction, make the architectural decisions, and review everything that goes in. - Changes come with automated tests. Nothing ships just because it looks right. - You see working software early and often, so you can react to something real rather than a description. If you're specifically looking for someone to write code by hand, I'm probably not the right fit, and it's better to know that up front. If what matters to you is software that works and is easy to maintain, I think this way of working serves you well. Current and recent work: - A Salesforce and NetSuite integration in C#/.NET for a networking equipment reseller. I've worked with this client, and the companies it grew out of, since 2000. - An AI companion feature for a streaming service I've worked with for over five years. Viewers scan a QR code while a programme is on air and get background on what they're watching (who made it, when, what was happening at the time), along with guided follow-up questions and recommendations from the library. It's built on Claude inside their existing app and is now live for all subscribers. - An inventory dashboard for an Amazon seller, replacing a manual spreadsheet workflow. It covers per-product sales forecasts, stockout predictions, and a simulator that shows what a shipment delay will cost in lost sales. It's backed by more than 900 automated tests. - Ongoing development of an inventory and operations system for a UK rail equipment supplier. Things I can help with: - Adding AI features to an existing product. That means thinking about cost, speed, and what happens when the model gets something wrong, not just wiring up a chatbot. - Building new applications and internal tools, from first prototype to production. - Taking over existing codebases: upgrades, new features, and bringing tests and structure to older apps. - Turning business data and spreadsheets into dashboards and forecasts people will actually use. With AI handling more of the implementation, I'm less tied to any one language or framework than I used to be. My deepest background is in Ruby on Rails and C#/.NET, and I work regularly with PostgreSQL, MySQL, Azure SQL, JavaScript, Hotwire, Tailwind, Sidekiq, Heroku, AWS and Docker, Salesforce and NetSuite integrations, as well as Claude Code and the Claude API (direct and via AWS Bedrock). English is my first language. I aim to communicate promptly and clearly, and I'll tell you if I think something could be done a better way. I'm also happy to start with a small piece of work so we can see how we work together before committing to anything larger.
