Alexandru Costel F.

I'm a GIS specialist (GISP) working mostly with mineral exploration data: Soviet-era geological and geochemical maps, drillholes, assays, alteration and satellite imagery. For the past nine years I've been the GIS data manager for an exploration company in Kazakhstan, and I've completed more than 170 jobs on Upwork since 2015. My biggest project is a digitisation of the VSEGEI 1:200,000 map series for the whole of Kazakhstan: deposits and occurrences, stream-sediment geochemistry with its anomaly polygons, and an alteration layer of about 5,500 mapped areas and 18,000 veins, dikes and contacts. I also prepare drillhole data from Russian-language passports, inclinometry and field XRF for clean import into Leapfrog. Outside mining, I run a PostGIS catalogue for a large archive of scanned maps, do GIS analysis and report writing for solar and wind developments in Ireland and the UK, and automate repetitive GIS work with Python, FME, QGIS models and OCR for scanned maps and reports. I'm currently testing AI models for automatic map vectorisation on my own GPU workstation. The tools I use every day are QGIS, ArcGIS Pro, Global Mapper, Leapfrog Geo, PostgreSQL/PostGIS, GeoServer, FME, Python and Power BI. Recent training includes PostGIS with Lutra Consulting, the Hyperspectral Autumn School run by ROSA, ASI and DLR, Certified Global Mapper User with LiDAR from Blue Marble, and Mammoth Geospatial's courses on drillhole, geochemical, geophysical and satellite data in QGIS. If you have legacy maps to turn into usable data, an exploration dataset that needs cleaning up, or a spatial database to set up properly, send me a message with what you have and I'll tell you how I'd approach it.
