For over ten years, I have been committed to teaching others and to the science of how people learn. During this time, I have taught secondary level English, Reading, and College and Career Readiness and have served as a mentor to train new teachers. As a teacher, I have designed my own curriculum for the duration of my career, including creating an entirely new course for my school district’s use across numerous secondary schools. I have a Masters of Science in Education, providing an extensive background in the psychology, science, and practice of learning. For the past two years, I have worked in instructional design, primarily at the college level, working alongside SMEs to design courses for many diverse subject areas. Additionally, I have built and QA'd courses for another client and their entire catalog of online learning. My experience in instructional design includes the following LMS and authoring tools: - Canvas LMS - LearnDash - LearnWorlds - D2L Brightspace - Blackboard - Articulate Rise My goals in designing instruction: - Establish a strong set of objectives that ensure learners are able to complete a task or apply what they have learned - Create a clear structure for how the content will be presented - Meet these objectives through scenario-based training, interactive activities, and consistent knowledge checks/assessments - Regular dialogue with clients or SMEs to ensure that their learning goals are accomplished - Researching and finding innovative ways to maintain engagement with learners (Articulate RIse/Storyline, Adobe Captivate)
