Matthew W.
Design, Illustration, Fine Art, Sketch Artist
Hi there, I’m drawn to work that has a clear vision, strong reference materials, and room for thoughtful design and creativity. When that’s paired with a client who understands the value of quality work, great things tend to happen. I value clear communication and take pride in producing work of the highest quality. My background is in architecture, where I spent over 20 years as a licensed architect working on a wide range of meaningful projects for some truly special clients. After retiring from the profession, I shifted my focus to art and reconnected with my first love: artistic expression. I especially enjoy pen and ink illustration, urban sketching, and plein air watercolor. I regularly participate in plein air competitions and have been fortunate to win Best of Show on a couple of occasions. I’ve also found a rewarding way to connect architecture and art through teaching Architectural Communications at the University of Utah’s School of Architecture. Helping students learn how to capture the built environment through direct observation has been incredibly fulfilling. Sharing my passion for hand-drawn sketches and engaging 3D architectural visualizations has also pushed my own skills to grow. So why freelance? Simply put, I enjoy it. Between teaching and art competitions, freelancing allows me to collaborate with clients like you while continuing to refine and expand my skill set. I hope we have the opportunity to work together and create something visually exciting and meaningful. Thanks, M. Scott Woodruff
