My software career started when I was 14, with writing Ruby web apps for small businesses, freelance collectives, and failed startups (Instajournal anyone?). Now, another 14 years and hundreds of projects later: - I've built reactive web apps with React and reactive desktop apps with QtQuick; - I've worked on blockchains as well as an alternative to blockchains (Holochain); - I've designed low-cost zero-maintenance cloud apps comprised of AWS or GCP services; I've also managed custom baremetal deployments. - I've maintained an innovative Linux distribution (NixOS); I've even worked on Linux kernel device drivers. What I can bring to the table: - Breadth. Instead of trying to force a square peg into a round hole by implementing a technology that doesn't align with your use case, I can select something that's tailored to your domain. - Depth. If what you're trying to do is best solved with a patch to the operating system, the database, or the programming language, that's what I'm going to do. And have done before. - Security. - Simplicity. I have extensive experience with Clojure, Rust, Python, Ruby, Elixir, Erlang, Go, Rust, Java, JavaScript programming languages and their respective ecosystems. When it comes to DevOps, I'm familiar with NixOS (commit access since 2017), NetBSD, OpenBSD, RHEL, Debian. I have designed cloud application architectures using various AWS and GCP services. I'm a fan of React for web and Qt for desktop. I'm well versed in use of modern cryptographic primitives, from signatures to PAKE. I work Monday through Friday from 9 to 5 Eastern (13 to 21 UTC).
