Direct Response Creative Strategist | Meta Ads, Copywriting, Funnels
Let’s call a spade a spade…finding a GOOD freelancer on Upwork ain’t easy. But finding a freelancer who’s both good AND can actually make Meta ads that run profitably…? Borderline impossible. How would I know? Well, after generating over $29.2 million in pipeline from Meta ads for clients I've worked with inside my agency… And then taking a look back at the ‘competition’ here on Upwork… I can honestly say most Upworkers just don’t ‘get’ ads. You see, my dirty little marketer paws have spent an unhealthy amount of time scratching and burrowing through other Upwork profiles… (Both as a client and freelancer) What I found? Freelancers simply don't get TWO important things about how to make profitable Meta ads: #1 Thing Upworkers Don’t Get: AI SLOP KILLS ADS. People can smell AI words a mile away. And they stink. Worse than me after a 7km run in 40 degree Aussie heat. Pure or lazily-edited AI copy, ads, designs, landing pages, product pages…suck. That’s why you’re on Upwork looking for a human to make your ads and not just punching in a prompt to Claude. AI has been The Current Thing for 4 years now…people’s brains spot AI writing a mile away and ignore it. The short sentences. The overly verbose paragraphs that drag on and on like corporate brochures. The first rhetorical question? Followed by the second? And then the answer. And of course, the em dashes '—'... (RIP em dashes…we had a good run) Most Upworkers simply don’t get that now more than ever, ads and copy NEED humanity injected in them to stand out in the ocean of AI Slop. Don’t get me wrong. I use AI every day. But leaning on it to the point where, for example, you use it to write your entire Upwork profile, just like my ‘competitors’ do? *facepalm* STRONG ads that print money, do it via pattern interruption - making content that actually sounds human in a world that has devolved to lazy copy-and-paste AI garbage. Wait. Pattern interruption? That’s a good opportunity for a segway… #2 Thing Upworkers Don’t Get: UGLY ADS WORK BETTER Don’t believe me? Check my portfolio (or the ads of any brand that is direct-response heavy or works in competitive industries). Ugly ads catch people’s eyes. Polished, ‘branded’ marketing-department-approved ads may look pretty… But they blend in with every other overly polished image and graphic on people’s feeds. Why? THEY LOOK LIKE ADS. And get ignored (24/7). If you want to run ads profitably, you have to make them NOT look like ads eg - UGLIFY them. NOTE: I’m not saying make half-arsed ads and you’ll wake up a millionaire. Nothing half-arsed works, just like my Grade 6 music teacher once candidly told my mother during Parent-Teacher Night. What I am saying is ads need to go against the grain. When everyone’s ads are pretty and wrapped with a bow… You create ads that DEMAND attention using UNUSUAL creative elements combined with powerful hooks that lock onto your prospects like heat-seeking missiles. (This even applies to you ecom guys and gals. Yes, the product in the static ad needs to look amazing. But the ad design itself should still catch people’s eyes). I could probably go on forever why Upworkers aren’t ideal tbh… 🚩 They don’t have real-world agency experience (I've run ads for clients across all sorts of industries - business coaches, HR, IST-managed services firms, to name a few) 🚩 They haven’t used Upwork AS A CLIENT (I’ve spent $25k+ as a client on Upwork…I know the struggles of working with freelancers who cut corners). 🚩 They haven’t actually generated real-world results with their ads, which brings me to my next point… I can point to tangible leads, pipeline and real revenue signed from ads I've run for clients. Here are some of my results in just the last 3 months of doing B2B lead gen: ✅ Accounting and business advisory firm: booked 21 calls at a $476 cost per meeting adding $360,000 in new pipeline (their average deal size: $15-$25k). ✅ Business coaching consultancy: generated 33 meetings with business owners at an average cost per meeting of $297 adding $234,000 in new pipeline (their average deal size: $15.6k) ✅ Data & analytics firm: 15 booked calls with decision makers at an average cost per call of $570, adding ~$250,000 in new pipeline (their average deal size: $40k-$80k). In total, that's nearly $850k in new pipeline generated across just 3 clients in the last quarter. (For more results, check my portfolio below) Interested in working together? Send me a message, I'd love to connect. PS - I have just one non-5-star review on Upwork… a 4 star from a tiny $55 consulting gig. The client showed up 15 minutes late, we worked on his email deliverability, he seemed happy… 7 months later, he leaves a 4 star review. Bizarre. Scroll through the rest of my reviews and you'll see everything else is 5 star reviews. PPS - Your product/service MUST ACTUALLY WORK. That means no ‘law of attraction’ woo-woo spiritual healing or fake supplements.
