AWS Cloud & Data Platform Architect | Kubernetes, Kafka, AI Dev
I architect cloud data platforms and distributed systems, and lead the engineering teams that build them. Right now that means running AWS infrastructure (EKS/Kubernetes, Kafka) behind a multi-billion dollar trading platform at Rocket Mortgage, and leading a Cloud Enablement team of SREs and server engineers whose mandate is simplifying how ~400 internal codebases operate in the cloud. A few things I've shipped that I'm proud of: • Designed the API and database schemas behind a pricing system that saves roughly $10M/year through faster response to market conditions. • Architected the micro-frontend + microservices (Kafka-based) foundation for a new trading platform — work that was chosen to demo to company investors. • Built a database migration tool that moved 20+ production databases from Oracle to Postgres, cutting $50K/year in recurring costs. • Reduced data-platform operational complexity by 27% by consolidating ETL and Glue jobs onto a unified set of accounts. • Mentored a team that won an internal Innovator & Disruptor award for a tool they built under my guidance. I'm also deep in AI-assisted engineering right now — not just using it, but building with it. I'm currently building a tool that scans 400+ codebases to extract business context straight from source code, used to onboard engineers faster, give AI coding/planning agents real system context, and help experienced folks navigate parts of the system they don't know well. Outside of work I build full side projects end-to-end with Claude Code (happy to share examples, including a live data-driven site I built solo). My core strength is systems architecture and design — APIs, data models, distributed systems, and turning messy business problems into clean technical plans, built over 20+ years across fintech, legal tech, and financial services. On my current team I focus on architecture and tooling strategy; day-to-day IaC and security-patching execution is my engineers' specialty more than mine. I communicate clearly, document my reasoning, and care as much about the "why" behind a decision as the "what." If you're tackling a hard architecture, data platform, or AI-tooling problem, let's talk. Separately, I have a track record of solving hard, publicly-documented bugs in .NET, Angular, and CI/CD tooling (Azure DevOps, CircleCI). If your team is stuck on a gnarly, hard-to-diagnose technical problem, that's a place I can help too — not just in that stack.
