I am a computer engineer and AI-focused backend developer with more than a decade of experience in education, research, and real-world system building. Since 2013, I have worked as a professor at Universidad Técnica del Norte, where I have taught computer engineering and helped grow many highly capable engineers now working in industry. Alongside teaching, I have continuously expanded my expertise in challenging areas such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, and large-scale system design, building a strong and practical technical foundation. My work sits at the intersection of AI, backend engineering, automation, and data. I help teams take unclear ideas, raw data, or manual workflows and turn them into clean, reliable, production-ready systems that work day to day. On the AI side, I focus on practical LLM applications rather than demos. This includes RAG pipelines, multi-agent systems, chatbots with memory, document processing, semantic search, classification, extraction, and automation workflows. I have hands-on experience with LangChain, Hugging Face, OpenAI, Claude, and vector databases such as Pinecone and FAISS, including fine-tuning when it makes sense. My priority is always usefulness, reliability, and maintainability. Backend engineering is a core strength. I design and build APIs, services, and data pipelines using Python with FastAPI, Flask, and Django. I care deeply about clean architecture, performance, and systems that are easy to extend and maintain over the long term. I also have a strong background in automation and data engineering. I have built web scrapers, crawlers, ETL pipelines, data cleaning systems, reporting tools, dashboards, and bots for years. My focus is on stability and resilience, not fragile scripts that break after a short time. Deployment and infrastructure are part of my workflow, not an afterthought. I regularly deploy and operate systems on AWS, GCP, and Azure, using Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and serverless or containerized architectures depending on the project’s needs. I have worked with universities, companies, startups, and individual founders, often acting as a technical partner rather than just a task-based freelancer. I take time to understand the business goal first, then design a technical solution that fits it. I joined Upwork in 2016 out of interest and haveused the platform just to enjoy my creative hobby projects such as design and visual work, not for my major. But always, I couldn't spare time for it.
